LED backlighting market for LCD panels to see rapid growth

After several false dawns, it looks like the market for LED-backlit LCD panels is really starting to take off.

DisplaySearch estimates that 10.6 million LED-backlit LCD panels larger than 10-inch diagonal were shipped in the first quarter of 2009, and the total for 2009 is expected to reach 104.5 million units. Meanwhile, iSuppli predicts that the proportion of TVs using LED backlights will grow from 3% in 2009 to 39% in 2013, when total shipments will reach 90 million units.

Hi,
I beleive that the adoption of LED backlit for LCD TV is taking place, but I doubt that the peneatration rate will be as high as you expected. And the price gap would not be going that narrow that fast. As a lot of TV makers are using different LED types, different way of the back lit format: edge lit, Direct White Lit, RGB direct back lit for their LCD Panels. Let' watch out the trend for a period of 5-6 months first, One thing for sure is that LED without LED back lit will be hard to sell in the market unless very low end verision. So to the end uders, TV Manufacturers, LED makers. These are good news!
