AC LEDs offer a new approach

A recent News item on the LEDs Magazine website describes how the Taiwanese chip maker Epistar plans to introduce AC-LED chips in the near future.

AC-LEDs offer advantages compared with conventional DC-driven LEDs, such as the elimination of AC-DC converters and their associated conversion losses and reliability issues.
